Vigneron: Germain Croisille
It has been a little while since we have regularly listed Cahors wines, not an oversight just a need to seek out some new growers that delivered Malbec with finesse over power, power is the easy part in Cahors. Fantastic soils and very long on tradition Cahors should be a region up amongst the best. Nowadays it is heading back in that direction. Eventually roads lead to Germaine Croisille, the third generation of his family making wines on their estate. He has won a few prizes recently but that’s as may be, we reckon as Andrew Jefford also does that his wines are benchmark Malbec. As ever good practices in the vineyard , 30 and 35 year old vines on calcareous clay terraces and in the winery, time and an an excellent understanding of the use of oak, great wines, happy to have Cahors back in the fold.
