Vigneron: Jean Michel Stephan
Jean Michel Stephan started running the estate on his own in 1991. He is today considered a rising star of the Côte Rôtie appellation. He owns a 4.5 ha Vineyard, with 10% from the Côte Brune and 90% from the Côte Blonde.
La Roncharde is the name of the ‘Lieu-Dit’ where the vines are planted. It is a very steep slope and quite a crazy place to grow anything really, facing south west which lends them a very high maturity without the excess of heat in the wines which produces such a fresh and digestible Condrieu, very far away from the majority of wines produced in this appellation unfortunately.
Tupin is the name of the small village where Jean-Michel lives and where the vines of Serine were planted at the very start of the 90’s on a very specific Terroir of Gneiss, on an incredibly steep slope that we walked last year.
